Kara F. McIvor

Kara F. McIvor is an attorney and Workers’ Compensation Practice Group Leader at Roane Law in Greensboro, North Carolina. She has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since 1998. Kara’s dedication to her practice area and clients is evident in the honors / distinctions she holds. Kara is a Board Certified Specialist in North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Law. Only a small percentage of workers’ compensation attorneys in North Carolina are granted this certification by the North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization. Education

Kara graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies from Vanderbilt University in 1993. While at Vanderbilt, Kara pursued her passion for music by auditioning for and performing with various local choirs / chorales / vocal groups.

Kara obtained her J.D. in 1997 from Washington & Lee University School of Law. While at law school, Kara clerked for various professors and was an American Bar Association Negotiation Competition finalist.

It was while Kara was at law school that she decided to focus on fighting for the rights of injured workers. While she was a law student, a family member sustained a significant work injury. Frustrated at the insurance company’s handling of the case, Kara signed up for Workers’ Compensation Law the next semester and has remained devoted to being the voice for injured workers ever since.

Previous Work Experience

As an attorney in the field of North Carolina Workers’ Compensation, Kara has aggressively fought for the rights of injured workers in claims ranging from back injuries to traumatic injuries. She obtained settlements in two traumatic brain injury cases in excess of $1 million dollars, with a $1.3 million dollar settlement being featured as a front page article in a legal periodical.

Devoted to Education & Mentoring

Both of Kara’s parents were teachers/professors. Kara satisfies her natural desire to teach by serving as a mentor to younger lawyers and by speaking at numerous continuing legal education conferences.

Personal Information & Interests

Kara lives in Kernersville with her husband, Jon, her son, Stratton, and her mother, Pat Newell. In addition to her devotion to her family, Kara enjoys singing, weight lifting and loves all things “beach.”
